As countries commit to and progress towards the elimination of parents-to-child transmission (EPTCT) of HIV and syphilis, validating elimination is now necessary. Moves are underway in Asia-Pacific to set up a validation mechanism based on global guidelines developed by WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA and UNAIDS. Agencies working on EPTCT in the region met on November 10, 2014 in Bangkok, Thailand, to discuss next steps, regional and country activities and to learn valuable lessons from pilot exercises in Asia-Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean.
In the best interest of children, and to protect their privacy, UNICEF does not publish photographs of children who are HIV-positive or otherwise affected by HIV & AIDS, except in those cases where the child’s identity is protected or where the child and/or the parents/guardians have specifically authorized publication of the photograph.
